JIM BLANCHARD was born in Houston, Texas and spent his formative years in Alaska, Ohio, California, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Norway. In 1982, Jim published his first issue of BLATCH, a punk rock /graphics zine which lasted 14 issues before ceasing publication in ‘88.
Jim received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from University of Oklahoma in ‘86 and then moved to Seattle, Washington where he worked many jobs including: copy shop geek, printshop negative retoucher, rock poster artist, artist for books, CDs and records as well as being an editorial and technical illustrator. He is well known for his comic book art, logo designs and having been the art director at the world famous Fantagraphics Books, where he inked 15 issues of Peter Bagge’s HATE comic series. Fantagraphics Books still publishes Jim’s work today (see links).
Jim is also a painter of fancy large scale art notably shown at the Roq La Rue Gallery in Seattle. Today he dedicates much of his time to commissioned portraits in a variety of mediums, his wife Diana and Lucius the dog.
